On the death certificate the surname was recorded as Boroman. Ann only wanted sons as she considered girls would only "get into trouble" - somehow she managed to achieve her goal! Moved to New Zealand in 1891 to be able to see her husband more frequently as his ship called there more often than Melbourne.

Anne was given a bible by her father on her 16th birthday, inscribed 'Anne Jane Boroman a gift from her father'. The bible has a very solid black cover and gold edging on the pages and was printed in 1871.
